Senior Cory Mabry went out with a bang by completing all five of his passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns as Fort Chiswell toppled visiting Bland County 49-13 in the MED football season finale for both schools on Nov. 4.
It was a nasty night for Bland County Bears football against Galax on Oct. 28. The weather wasn’t all that good either.
Coming off two lopsided losses against a couple of MED powers, district newcomer Graham was looking for a break in its schedule for hopes of scoring its first-ever league win.
Too many weapons and too much speed equaled too much firepower as Grayson County bowled over homestanding Bland County 56-13 in MED football action from Oct. 14 in Bastian.
The success of the Bland County boys cross-country team can be measured by more than wins and losses this season, though the number of wins they have tells the story pretty well. Currently, the Bears are ranked second, behind Galax, in the Mountain Empire District and are a top 10 team in Region C.

At 0-4, Bland County’s footballin’ Bears could just as easily be 3-1. If Harris Hart’s team could catch and few breaks and cut down on late-game mistakes, this year’s gridiron season might have a completely different look.

Bluefield College was the site for the 5th annual Jason Elswick Scholarship Challenge on Sept. 10, the event a fundraiser in honor of Jason Elswick, a Tazewell County native that was tragically killed in a car accident several years ago.
