Monday mornings can be rough at any business, but the start of this work week brought news of an error to the town of Marion that will impact thousands of taxpayers.
According to Dixie Sheets, the town’s clerk and treasurer, the 3,600 Personal Property tax tickets mailed last Thursday were based on outdated information. Though the town had provided the correct 2009 personal property assessment information to its printing vendor, Sheets said, the 2008 information was inadvertently used.
She noted that the town learned of the mistake Monday morning. Corrected statements will be mailed this week.
Sheets expressed her appreciation to town taxpayers for their patience.
