Tazewell County voters favored Republicans at the top of the ticket, giving Bob McDonnell and Bill Bolling 73 percent of the vote in the governor and lieutenant governor races, respectively. Ken Cuccinelli was 71 percent of the county’s vote for the Attorney General post.
County races were much closer Tuesday, with Jim Campbell Jr. edging David Woodard, 892 votes to 831, for the northern district Board of Supervisors post, according to preliminary totals from the State Board of Elections. In the southern district School Board race, Randy Conn beat Buddy Young by 200 votes, receiving 1,391 to Young’s 1,191. In the three-way race for the western district Supervisor seat, John Absher topped the contest with 1,017 votes. Billy Wimmer and Bob Wade received 744 and 469 votes, respectively. Mike Hymes took the southern district Supervisors seat with 1,581 votes to Dallas Sparks’ 975. In the western district School Board race, Steven Davis beat Penny Nimmo 1,342 votes to 832.
County voters also helped Anne B. Crockett-Stark fend off a challenge from Carole Pratt, giving the Republican incumbent 1,537 votes. The challenger received 403. Across the district, Republican Crockett-Stark was re-elected with 65 percent of the vote.
Dan Bowling narrowly lost the Third District seat for delegate, receiving 3,345 votes to Will Morefield’s 4,954. Districtwide, Morefield received 57 percent of the vote to Bowling’s 42 percent. Check next Wednesday’s paper for more on the election results.
