Two motorcyclists were severely injured in a wreck on the Blue Ridge Parkway Sunday, October 11.
According to Ranger Pete Schula, two people from the Roanoke Valley were headed south on the Parkway on a three-wheeler at midday when they ran off the right side of the road near milepost 168.4.
Schula was the first responder at the scene, and Floyd rescue personnel arrived about a minute later.
Two helicopters, LifeGuard 10 and LifeGuard 11 were also dispatched and flew the victims to a Roanoke hospital where they were placed in the intensive care unit.
“It was an extremely steep and difficult location,” Schula said. The bank was about 50 feet high.
One lane of the Parkway was closed the entire time, and both lanes were closed briefly.
The Park Service responded to another Parkway wreck Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. A cyclist from Moneta was southbound when he struck a deer at milepost 152 in Floyd County. He was transported to the hospital by Floyd EMS.
