Jarrett sentenced to 56 years

TAZEWELL – A 70-year-old Boissevain man will spend the rest of his life in prison for shooting his neighbors more than two years ago.
Paul Daniel Jarrett, 70, had pleaded guilty to the July 9 2007 shooting of Charles Allen Proffitt and Tammy Proffitt also of Boissevain. Circuit Court Judge Teresa Chafin sentenced Jarrett to 68 years and agreed to suspend 12. the commonwealth presented evidence that Charles Proffitt had brought some beer to Jarrett’s home in hopes the two could resolve a long standing feud,
The evidence was that Jarrett shot Charles Proffitt nine times and shot Tammy Proffitt when she came across the road to see what was going on. Charles Proffitt died as a result of the shooting and Tammy Proffitt was wounded.
Jarrett had entered guilty pleas to murder, malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
