A 2009 graduate of Marion Senior High School is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Washington County Monday morning.
According to Corinne Geller, a spokesperson for the Virginia State Police, 19-year-old Samantha Lynn Wingler was transported from the scene to Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn., where she died later Monday morning.
Geller said the 8 a.m. crash occurred on U.S. 11 approximately a tenth of a mile north of Route 751. Wingler’s 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling on U.S. 11 when, according to the VSP, it crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Kenworth T300 dump truck head on. Wingler was not wearing a seat belt, Geller said, and was thrown from the van.
Trooper P.J. Battel investigated the crash. Geller said no charges will be filed, and alcohol was not a factor in the wreck.
Wingler’s funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion.
She is survived by her mother and father, Jama D. Wingler of Abingdon and Dallas G. Wingler of Marion, her fiancé, Dennis Kell and his children, Hunter, Dustin and Ryan Kell of Marion, a brother and sister and other family members.
In her obituary, the family suggested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
