»  Comments | Post a Comment

A two-vehicle crash Friday on Route 16 south of Marion claimed the life of a Johnson City, Tenn., man. Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said Oliver C. Farr Jr., 57, died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.
Geller said at 2:48 p.m., VSP Sr. Trooper B.E. Jones was called to the scene approximately three-quarters of a mile from Route 601 where Oliver, southbound in his 1994 Saturn, apparently lost control in a curve. Geller said the Saturn spun out of control and crossed the centerline into the northbound lane where it was struck in the passenger side by a 2000 Toyota pickup truck.
Geller said the pickup truck’s driver, Edward B. Patterson, 51, of Abingdon, was transported by ambulance to Smyth County Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, Geller said.
The crash remains under investigation.
