Marion police Tuesday night apprehended a man wanted for probation violation on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender following a foot chase, town spokesman Ken Heath said.
Heath said Eddie Ray Haga, 37, of Ripshin Road, Troutdale, was at a Marion residence where officers attempted to arrest him. Haga fled on foot, and several agencies were called in to assist, including Smyth County Sheriff's Deputies and K-9 officer, Virginia State Police, and MedFlight, Heath said.
A citizen called 911 when he observed a person matching the subject's description, and police surrounded Haga in the North Jones Street neighborhood, Heath said.
Haga produced a knife and threatened himself, and Marion officers subdued Haga with a Tazer, and he was taken into custody, Heath said.
Haga was transferred to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon, Heath said.
