Apple pies welcome

As part of the Harvest Festival and County Fair, to be held in downtown Floyd this year, an apple pie baking contest is scheduled for Saturday, September 11. Pies must arrive between 10 a.m. and noon at the Sun Music Hall.
Judging will begin at 12:30 p.m. Awards will be announced at 2 p.m.
The pie must be a double crust apple pie.
Overall appearance is worth 15 points, crust color, flavor, texture and doneness are 20 points, filling consistency, doneness, moistness and flavor are 25 points, flavor 30 points, and creativity 10 points.
First place prize is a Longaberger new Fancy Round Pie Basket. Runner-up prize is an apple peeler from Farmer’s Supply.
Contest rules:
*scratch ingredients
*no pre-made crusts or fillings
*60 percent of pie must be apples
*must be served at room temperature, cannot require refrigeration
*list types of apples used
*provide two copies of recipe (one signed, one blind). Recipes may be used for future cookbook; please note if source is copyrighted
*$5 entry fee
*pies must be removed by owners after the contest to comply with health regulations
*only pre-registered pies accepted.
The finished pie cannot contain raw or uncooked eggs (whites or yokes). Eggs must reach 160 degrees to be considered cooked.
