VDOT preparing for another storm

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Virginia Department of Transportation is gearing up for yet another weekend winter storm. “We’re not looking forward to it, but we’ll be ready,” said Bob Beasley of the VDOT Hillsville Residency.
“I’ve heard everything forecast from a foot to 30 inches,” he said. “It depends on a lot of things. It should start Friday afternoon and last 24 to 36 hours.”
VDOT has been continually restocking salt, chemicals and abrasives. “We’ve been getting a lot, but so has the rest of the East Coast and Midwest. There’s a real demand.
“We try to stay well stocked. There’s no danger of running out during this storm."
He said contractors are also used when there is a “pushable” snow.
“This has been the wettest year on record,” Beasley said. “And there is another storm due next week.”
