WARDELL – An elderly Baptist Valley woman is dead following an accident in the afternoon of Jan. 27.
Virginia State Trooper Shane Workman said Eleanor Christine Keene was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt on route 19 near state route 834 in the north bound lane. Workman said the Chevrolet was attempting to go from the right lane to the left and enter an intersection.
She pulled into the path of an International truck and it struck the car in the door. The car was spun around and hit the guardrail before coming to a stop.
Keene was taken by MedFlight to Bristol Regional Medical Center where she is in critical condition. A passenger in the Keene vehicle, Betty Artrip, 79, was dead at the scene.
Workman said a charge of improperly changing lanes is pending against Keene. .
