Steve Conley will be the MC for the County’s Independence Day celebration to be held on Saturday, July 3, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the high school baseball field. Admission is $1. The celebration is sponsored by the Floyd County Merchants’ and Businessmen’s Association with help from many businesses and individuals.
This year’s celebration is bigger and better, says coordinator Susan Leonard. (See list of activities at right.)
Look for McGruff the Crime Dog, Tweety, Sylvester and the Moose, too.
A drawing for door prizes will be awarded every hour - at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00. Just register as soon as you arrive at the merchants’ tent near the baseball field entrance.
Win prizes, too, by playing Bingo under the big tent with Judy Mahala and Odelia Havis. Play as much as you want. Cost is 50 cents a card.
Also making a return this year are the pony rides. Tickets for the rides are purchased separately.
A 45-foot obstacle slide bounce will also be available for the children, along with the NASCAR Challenge that will even appeal to adults. A new feature is the 9-hole miniature golf for the whole family. Tickets for these games may be purchased separately.
At 6:15 - 7:00, local musician Kari Kovick will have a program for the children in front of the stage. (See story on Page 3A). All participants will get a free ticket to use for the Bounce Obstacle Slide or NASCAR Challenge. Everyone is also invited to help the local NRCA food bank by bringing a can of food for a drive, being sponsored by the Rotary Club. Take your food to the Rotary’s truck.
There will be plenty of food choices, so come prepared to have your picnic at the event and help to support the vendors.
And don’t forget to bring a chair or blanket. Fireworks, set off by local firemen, begin after 9:00.
