Three high-power drugs, crack cocaine, oxycontin and meth, were a focal point of two separate Smyth County law enforcement operations this week.
On Tuesday, the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office and the Clandestine Lab Response Team executed a search warrant at 341 Firestone Lane in the Pugh Mountain area. According to a sheriff’s office press release, the subsequent search resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Matthew Shortt of Glade Spring.
Shortt, the release said, was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamines, and possession of two or more precursors to manufacture methamphetamines.
Shortt was jailed on a $3,500 secured bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.
The investigation is ongoing, and according to the press release, additional charges are anticipated.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office and Virginia State Police conducted an undercover operation at the Kangaroo station in the Atkins area.
According to the release, Kim J. Stultz, 45, of Axton was arrested for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, crack cocaine, and distribution of a Schedule II controlled substance, oxycontin.
The release said Stultz was jailed on an $8,000 secured bond at the regional jail.
