A Saltville Town Council member and his son were uninjured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning that killed a Glade Spring man.
Virginia State Police said Thursday that Thomas Walter Holley, 64, and Michael Holley, 39, both of Saltville, wore their seatbelts and escaped injury.
Brian Dean Arnold, 34, of Glade Spring, Va., died at the scene, VSP said.
VSP Sr. Trooper C.A. Dixon responded to the crash at 8:50 a.m. on state Route 91 (Crescent Road) approximately 2/10 mile north of state Route 751. A 2004 Ford F-250 driven by Randall Adam Poole, 22, of Abingdon, was traveling north on state Route 91 when it crossed the center line and struck Arnold’s 1998 Suzuki Sidekick head-on in the southbound lane, VSP said.
The Holleys’ 1992 Toyota Corolla also traveling in the southbound lane swerved to the right to avoid the collision and was struck by the Suzuki, VSP said.
Poole, who had been wearing a seatbelt, was transported by ambulance to Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon with non-life threatening injuries, VSP said.
Both lanes of State Route 91 were cleared and re-opened to traffic at 1 p.m. The investigation continued with the VSP Crash Reconstruction Team assisting Dixon.
Council member Holley could not be reached Friday.
