Two more candidates have officially filed for the May 4 town council elections in Wytheville and Rural Retreat. Incumbent Ed Schaack is seeking re-election to another four-year term on the Rural Retreat Town Council while newcomer Tommy Hundley is seeking one of the two seats on Wytheville Town Council.
The deadline for filing with Wythe County General Registrar Elizabeth C. Cook was Tuesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. As of Monday, the registrar said there were no other candidacy forms that had not been returned to her office.
Wytheville Town Council candidates are required to file a petition with the signatures of 125 registered voters with the registrar’s office because of town population. Rural Retreat Town Council candidates are not.
All candidates must file specific documents with the registrar.
Wytheville Mayor Trent Crewe and Rural Retreat Mayor Tim Litz have officially filed for re-election in their respective towns. Both are unopposed.
Incumbent Wytheville Town Council member John W. Jones Jr. has filed as a candidate for one of the two council seats. Jack Hunley also is seeking election to the Wytheville council.
Wytheville Town Council veteran Bill Weisiger is not seeking re-election.
Three seats are open on the Rural Retreat Town Council. Incumbents Keith Crigger and Dale Yontz have filed for re-election.
Wilma Justus and James Gordon also are official candidates for Rural Retreat Town Council.
There are 5,360 registered voters in the town of Wytheville. The town of Rural Retreat has 1,016 registered voters.
