Apparently upset that no one would go for more beer when his supply was gone, a Smyth County man began shooting into his cousin’s house, police said. Lewis Steward Jones, 23, of Marion was arrested last Tuesday by the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office.
Jones faces charges of malicious shooting into an occupied dwelling, reckless handling of a firearm, destruction of property, assault, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and being drunken in public.
According to Chief Deputy Keith Dunagan, officers were called to 325 Huckleberry Road in Crockett in connection with an intoxicated family member shooting into the residence with a high-powered rifle. Arriving at the scene, they found Jones sitting on the tailgate of a truck.
“He had asked a person at the house to take him for more beer,” Dunagan said. “He became annoyed when that person refused. Apparently, he had been drinking all day.”
Dunagan said Jones was a cousin of someone at the residence.
In an unrelated incident on Feb. 23, the Sheriff’s Office charged three Wytheville residents with drug possession following an incident at the Fort Chiswell Car Wash. One of the subjects was wanted by the Virginia State Police.
Dunagan reported an officer saw Keisha Deanna Jakublak, 33, of Piney Mountain Road, enter a business near the car wash and knew she was wanted by the state police. The deputy, he said, took Jakublak into custody.
Jakublak was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of untaxed alcohol.
In the course of the investigation, officers also charged two others in the vehicle with drug-related crimes. They included Terrence Allen Sayles, 29, of Piney Mountain Road and Tessa Nicole Dunford, 20, of Peppers Ferry Road.
Sayles was charged with possession of a schedule II drug and a drug paraphernalia violation. Dunford was charged with possession of marijuana.
