TAZEWELL – A man convicted of robbing a local store in January of 2009 will spend the rest of his life in jail.
Judge Keary R. Williams upheld the jury’s recommendation in sentencing Shain Claude Collins for the armed robbery of Doran Grocery. That recommendation was life plus 54 years and a fine of $20,000.
Williams denied a defense motion to set the verdict aside before issuing the sentence. The Commonwealth presented the pre-sentence report and the victim impact statement but neither side called any witnesses.
Collins was convicted of robbery, statutory burglary and wearing a mask in public following a jury trial earlier this year.
