The county supervisors voted unanimously this week to contract with Christiansburg-based HDH Technical Inc. for development of a corrective plan to improve air quality inside the county courthouse.
The supervisors’ courthouse committee reported an inspection by the firm found “active mold growth in a closet in the Clerk’s office.”
The committee unanimously agreed to recommend the county employ HDH Technical to produce an indoor air quality remediation plan and then to solicit bids from licensed, qualified contractors for the work recommended in the plan.
County Engineer Scott Simpson said HDH Technical’s preparation of documents for solicitation of contractors’ bids would cost about $1,000, and the company’s monitoring of the work “to certify it is done correctly” will cost between $800 and $1,200.
HDH Technical’s Web site said it was begun “in 1988 to provide environmental health and safety services, specializing in asbestos/lead survey, abatement design and project monitoring and indoor air quality assessments.”
