Week two of Washington County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is sure to delight with “Spiders, Lizards, Snakes and More!”
Animal rehabilitator Darin Handy will lead the program as children learn about Virginia wildlife. To enhance learning, he will have animals from his rehabilitation center with him for children to visit. Handy will dazzle Tuesday, June 21 at the Mendota branch at 10:30 a.m., and at the Hayters Gap branch at 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, June 22 he will be in Glade Spring at 10:30 a.m. and in Damascus at 2:30 p.m.; Thursday, June 23, he will be at the main library in Abingdon at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The fun continues with Summer Movie Madness through the week. On Monday, June 20 at 10 a.m., children will enjoy a look into the life of an earth worm with “Diary of a Worm.” Thursday, June 23 brings another day of movies. “Gnomeo & Juliet” will be shown at 2:30 p.m., and family movie night will feature “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules” at 6 p.m. Attendees may bring their own snacks.
Teens sixth through 12th grade will enjoy Crafty Creations Monday, June 20 at 6 p.m. Teens must be at least 11 to attend.
The Summer Reading Program, June 13 through July 21, encourages children and teens to continue reading during the summer. A variety of reading incentives are available, including a weekly bike give-away sponsored by Moose Lodge 1966 and special give-aways for teens featuring movie passes and iTunes gift cards.
The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Washington County Public Library System and a generous donation from the Kiwanis Club of Abingdon. All events are free.
