The Town of Floyd has a new vice-mayor. At the Floyd Town Council Meeting Thursday, Ross Miller was chosen to replace Michael Patton, who has been vice-mayor for two years.
Patton told the Council, “It has been a privilege to serve, but I have no desire to ever be Mayor of Floyd. If someone else would like to have the opportunity, it is fine with me.”
After Miller and Councilwoman Karen Bingham said they were interested in the position, Councilman Bruce Turner nominated Miller, and Bingham seconded the nomination. Miller abstained from the 4-0 vote of approval.
Council also voted to keep the same meeting schedule, two meetings a month, on the first and third Thursdays.
At the meeting Council approved the continuance of the Bank Stock Tax at the same rate for the upcoming fiscal year.
Patton said he would also like to see a pay increase for Council members. “The Chairman of the Supervisors gets $4,100 per year, the vice-chairman $3,500, and the other members get $3,200. I’d like to see the stipend for Council members increase from $200 to $250 and the Mayor increase to $300.”
