New date set for Smyth school board meeting

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Smyth County School Board shifted the date of one of this year’s two regular monthly meetings it will hold outside the boardroom and in county schools.

The board at the first of the year selected Rich Valley Elementary School, 196 Long Hollow Road in Rich Valley, for its April 9 meeting. This week the board voted to meet at RVE on May 14 instead.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Robinson told the board April 9 is an “off day for the school, even if more snow days are lost.”

The Oct. 8 meeting will be in Sugar Grove Combined School, 242 Teas Road, Sugar Grove.

Otherwise, the board will meet in its room on the third floor of the county office building each second Monday, beginning at 5 p.m. with closed sessions for personnel and other confidential matters, and continuing in open session with the public welcome at 6 p.m.

As for snow days, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeff Cassell said last week the schools had missed two days this year because of snow. Monday’s closure made it three, contrasted to 18 snow days lost by this time last year.
